Summary |
This is a photocopy of 1864 ads that were reproduced in an undated issue of the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co.'s Billiard News. The ads were originally printed in the 1864 Illinois State Gazetteer by J. M. Brunswick & Bros. of Chicago, Illinois, which consisted of John M. Brunswick, Emanuel Brunswick, and Joseph Brunswick. Their office and sales room was located at 72 Randolph Street and their manufactory was located at 74-78 Randolph Street. The ads contain almost identical copy, reading: "Importers and wholesale dealers in billiard cloths, balls, French chalk, cue tips, cut corners, plain and fancy cues, and other materials belonging to the trade. "Pigeon hole and bagatelle tables constantly on hand. "Tables refitted with our latest style patent combination cushions, and marble or slate beds at short notice." Here, the ad on the left adds: "The recent improvements in these tables make them unsurpassed in the world; they are now offered to scientific billiard players combining speed with truth never before obtained in any billiard table." The ad on the right adds: "We respectfully ask of buyers an examination of our stock before purchasing elsewhere. Satisfaction guaranteed and immediate attention given to all orders." Both ads conclude with: "Remember J. M. Brunswick's Celebrated Patent Combination Cushion, patented December 8, 1857; July 7, 1859; July 12, 1849; and for which Silver Medal was awarded August 1859, and a Gold Medal September 1860." |
